Another shooting in Ybor City.
John McQuiston of Philip Randolph Parker Photography had some time to kill, and so he focused his lens on your neighborhood.
I had to drive into Tampa for what turned out to be no reason Sunday afternoon. I thought to bring my camera and stopped in Ybor City on my way home to snap some shots. I got there around 5 p.m. and shot only a few dozen photos.

Hey John, it’s all good – you don’t need a specific reason to stop in Ybor – you are welcome any time you like.

And Lauren’s thoughts of Ybor?:
I am SO glad we decided to shoot here, Ybor City has many quirks and great little nooks to shoot in.

Hillsborough Community College-Ybor City Campus presents the Eighth Annual Ybor Festival of the Moving Image from Wednesday, April 7, through Sunday, April 11, 2010.
This eclectic film festival explores the cinematic world of independent artists and filmmakers, offering a spectrum of features, documentaries and personal films, plus live performances, workshops and lectures.
The 2010 festival will continue to examine the social, political and philosophical implications and effects of art on the history of film, and the effects of these films on American culture.
Another theme, Global Snapshots, presents innovative films exploring the culturally diverse realms of our lives while challenging pre-existing notions of our world. The feature documentaries selected will illuminate contemporary political and cultural issues affecting and influencing our daily life.
Screenings will be held at Hillsborough Community College-Ybor, in the HCC Performing Arts Building at the corner of Palm Ave and 14th Street, Tampa, Florida, USA.
All screenings are $7.00 unless a special event. Tickets are available at the box office located in the Performing Arts Building. All festival events are free to the HCC community.

You might remember when we told you that HYNCA was creating a new website. They want us to tell them “Why do you live in Ybor City? or What brought you to Ybor City?”
Historic Ybor Neighborhood Civic Association President Tony LaColla tells us that the New Ybor “Residents Website” is Featured on Bay News 9, and it sure is…
Residents working to change perception of Ybor City:
“We have a walkable community where you can walk out your back door and go to stores and restaurants, art galleries, lots of events and activities going on,” Lacolla said. “That’s really why people move to Ybor City. There’s always something happening.”
As part of the effort to showcase the new Ybor City, Lacolla’s group has developed a new Web site called YborCityLiving.com.
But don’t go there just yet. Instead, go to http://yborliving.wordpress.com/, where they let you know that the new website will be up and running by the end of March.
